Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick

Mary Immaculate College

Mary Immaculate College, established in 1898, has a solid reputation as a unique and welcoming Catholic university. The College now enrolls about 3,200 students in its four undergraduate degree programs and more than thirty postgraduate programs up to the Ph.D. level. Students, staff, and members of the local, national, and international communities can all benefit from the excellent teaching, learning, and research facilities provided by MIC. Through its partnerships with more than 40 universities in Europe, 16 universities in the USA, and its exchange relationship with the Australian Catholic University, the College invites international students worldwide.

Mary Immaculate College is located in Limerick City's beautiful southern suburbs, Ireland's third largest city. Limerick is a vibrant and interesting city with three higher education institutions and a combined student population of 20,000. Limerick is Ireland's 2014 National City of Culture and the home of Munster Rugby. Mary Immaculate College, located just ten minutes from the city center, is an excellent starting point for seeing medieval Limerick as well as all of Ireland's most spectacular picturesque tourist locations, including Bunratty Castle, the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, the Ring of Kerry, West Cork, and others. The College's location, only a 20-minute drive from Shannon International Airport, makes travel to and from Brazil more straightforward and makes short visits to the UK and Europe more accessible.

Mary Immaculate College Student Life

Campus life

The lush 25-acre campus of MIC Limerick, which is only a short stroll from Limerick's social and cultural hub, combines modern and historic architecture to create something special. Although it has all the necessary amenities for lectures, studying, and entertainment, its small size and welcoming atmosphere give students "a home away from home." The College is filled with first-rate contemporary amenities, such as cutting-edge lecture and tutorial rooms, computer labs, and mock classrooms. The award-winning multi-purpose gymnasium and sports complex "Tailteann" are both held regularly at the 510-seat professional Lime Tree Theatre venue.

Sports facilities

The multipurpose "Tailteann" gymnasium at MIC opened to students in 2007 and earned the 2008 Royal Irish Architecture Awards prize for "Best Leisure Building." The structure, which is perched on the edge of a full-size GAA pitch, features three gyms—the largest of which is 8,000 sq. ft. and has retractable bleacher-style seating—a well-stocked weight room, locker rooms, and table tennis facilities.

An Astroturf running track surrounds the GAA pitch, and an Astroturf tennis/five-a-side soccer court is located on the opposite side. A floodlit practice field is also located across from the playing field.  Numerous college sports teams regularly practice and compete here.

 Student clubs

To "enrich the whole person," Mary Immaculate College encourages students for extracurricular activities to strike a healthy balance between their academic work and free time. The Mary Immaculate Students' Union (MISU) provides a wide range of clubs and socs that cover the arts, culture, education, sports, entertainment, welfare, and charity.
