Dun Laoghaire Institute Of Art Design and Technology Campus

The institute is situated near Bakers Corner and Deansgrange on Kill Avenue, approximately two kilometers west of Dún Laoghaire. Several bus routes stop there. Early in the 1980s, the former Dún Laoghaire College of Art and Design moved to the campus; it is now a part of the Faculty of Film, Art, and Creative Technologies at IADT. This action made it easier to expand the facilities, which ultimately resulted in the founding of IADT in 1997.

The college is growing its campus to accommodate more departments and students, and it has created amenities like the Media Cube for enterprise projects and SMEs in the technology sector. Recent additions to the sports complex include a full-sized, all-weather soccer pitch with floodlights.

Third-level education can be very expensive. Below are the scholarship details and financial advice links.

Access Scholarships for Asylum Seekers/Refugee applicants

With great pleasure, IADT is offering scholarships to refugees or applicants for international protection who want to enroll in one of its undergraduate programs or open learning modules.

Eligibility criteria and the selection process:

Before applying for a scholarship, please confirm that you fulfill all of the requirements for eligibility. (Applicants must offer proof of eligibility in the form of documentation.)

  • You are a refugee or an applicant for international protection.
  • You met the academic requirements for your selected course as a Leaving Certificate, QQI, or Mature Student applicant and applied through the CAO.
  • You must enroll in college for the first time in the academic year.
  • Your eligibility for the Pilot Support Scheme is denied.
  • Free fees and mainstream support funding, such as the SUSI maintenance grant and Department of Social Protection and Family Affairs (DEASP) payments (aside from direct provision payments), are not currently available to you.
  • The student is required to make arrangements for accommodation. The IADT does not offer lodging.

To apply, candidates must fulfill these stringent requirements for eligibility and be able to attest to their situation. Candidates who don't fit the requirements won't be allowed to win the scholarship.

Student Assistance Fund

The European Social Fund and the Irish Government jointly fund the Student Assistance Fund.

The Student Assistance Fund provides financial assistance to students who are experiencing significant financial difficulty and whose participation in college would be jeopardized without it.

1916 Bursary

This bursary aims to support the involvement and academic achievement of students from the most underrepresented groups in higher education and those who are socioeconomically disadvantaged.

Value of the 1916 Bursary

TIER1: €5,000 annually

TIER2: €2,000 annually

TIER 3: One-Time Bursary (€1,500 payable exclusively for the academic year 2022–2023)

After Tier 1 and 2 bursaries are awarded to each cluster (including for continuing students and students moving on to postgraduate study), the amount left over will determine how many Tier 3 bursaries are awarded.

Students will receive payment for Tier 1 and 2 bursaries as they proceed into postgraduate studies. This implies that recipients of a 1916 Bursary who are finishing their undergraduate degrees will be able to keep receiving their bursary for graduate study. Guidelines for PATH 2 HEA provide more information.

FAQ

1.What is the difference between Film and Television courses?

Students pursuing a BA (Hons) in Film will concentrate on specialization while maintaining a broad foundation in technical and craft skills. Great storytelling is at the heart of Screen Arts, and a single distribution channel or a conventional photo-chemical process will not restrict film. Rather, it will adopt a broader approach.

A broad technical and multi-platform media education will be provided to BA (Hons) Television students, in contrast to film, which will emphasize greater specialization.

It is crucial to remember that there will be a large overlap between each program—more than 60% of the modules will be shared, entirely or partially. Terms 4 and 5 are distinct, while Terms 6 through 8 will be 60% integrated. Terms 1-3 are fully shared.

2.Why study at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology?

    • Compact class sizes. Each student is given individual attention in the college’s learning environment.
    • Methodical, project-focused approach
    • Interactions between business, technology, and creative disciplines
    • Great computer, studio, library, and other specialized facilities on campus, including a Digital Media Incubation Center that houses start-ups and offers opportunities for recent graduates looking to launch their businesses.

    3.Is IADT public or private?

Situated in Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, the Institute of Art, Design and Technology is a specialized public-funded college that is part of Ireland's technological sector. It includes the National Film School.

4.How much does it cost to go to IADT?

Students who are repeating a year of study at the same year level or who have previously completed a course of study at the third level are not eligible for the Free Fees Initiative. The tuition fee of €819 may be imposed on these students.

5.What are the entry requirements for IADT?

Minimum Standards for Entry 2 H5 plus 4 O6/H7, comprising: Language: O6/H7 Math: Accepted for F2/O6/H7 Foundation Level Math. Entry Requirements for Further Education Candidates holding Level 5 or Level 6 Awards from QQI/FETAC must have distinctions in three out of eight modules. Mature students are welcome to apply but must do so through the CAO.

6.How many people are in IADT?

There are now 2500 students, up from 450 in the 1990s. In the upcoming years, the college hopes to expand to over 3,000 students, and they will keep building the campus and infrastructure to make this possible.
