Guide on Galway Mayo Institute of Technology in Ireland

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology

The Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) has five campuses in Ireland's west. Gazing out over the Atlantic Ocean at the largest campus in Galway, they are reminded of the words of Francis Bacon: "They are ill discoverers that think there is no land when they can see nothing but sea." Above all, as a center for higher education, they are dedicated to discovery. Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology invites you to accompany it on this educational journey that spans our lives.

The foundation of their organization is their students and the chances they provide them to reach their full potential. Ireland's Institute of Technology sector offers a distinctive combination of science, business, engineering, technology, and humanities courses, and students can advance through higher certificate, degree, and master's level awards to PhD level study. Since Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology’s award system aligns with the European Credit Transfer System, students can easily transfer their credits to pursue studies overseas. This credit transfer agreement also benefits new international students attending GMIT. The college welcomes applications from students worldwide and has connections with nearly 100 higher education institutions in the US and Europe.

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology Campus

The Mayo Campus is less than ten minutes from Castlebar Town and next to Mayo General Hospital.

In 1994, it opened its doors to students in the Hospital's west wing.  The entire structure has been sensitively restored to preserve as much of the original architecture as possible while providing students and staff with modern facilities and services.

The Mayo Campus is known for its nursing and outdoor education programs, as well as courses in business, technology, and health sciences.
