Agricultural Innovation and Entrepreneurship Career Opportunities

In the Western (and larger BMW) region, employment in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing segments accounts for 8% of total regional employment (CSO, 2017). This has been higher than the rest of the state, which has roughly 5% in the sector, for a number of years. Ireland's industry and exports are heavily reliant on agriculture, especially in the West of the country (the sector is valued at €13.54 billion nationally, according to Teagasc). The growth of more innovation-driven, scalable, and sustainable agri-enterprises will be advantageous to this industry.

The universities aim to produce innovators within organizations as well as the new venture creators of the future. Key terms included in job titles that graduates will be expected to learn include:

    • New product development
    • Design thinking
