The BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education and Care syllabus focuses on early childhood educators and the children they will work with. The curriculum offers three departure awards: a level 8 BA Hons. in ECEC, a level 7 BA Ord in ECEC, and a level 6 Higher Certificate in ECEC. At each exit award stage, the program seeks to provide aspiring ECEC professionals with the knowledge and abilities they need to navigate the dynamic field of early childhood education and care in Ireland and beyond successfully. It also aims to give learners the tools and dispositions they need to give the best practice and care possible to the children they work with and the ability to think critically about their roles as professionals both locally and globally.

Course Overview

The field of early childhood education and care has evolved quickly in the last several years. Students can interact with the theory and practice of providing high-quality early childhood education for children from birth to age six in this course, which considers these shifts. Students will get an understanding of how to support children's skills, interests, and abilities during this course. They will also study about the importance of the family and society in providing early care and education for children.

This course introduces students to the ever-changing field of early childhood education and care. There is an unparalleled shift occurring in policy, legislation, and practice. Pupils will have the chance to acquire values, information, and skills that will promote children's holistic development from birth to age six. Students will be able to develop as reflective educators with the ability to articulate what young children are learning, how they are learning, and the pedagogic approach that underpins their knowledge through engagement with academic and theoretical literature, classroom simulated practice, and practice placement that takes place in early childhood education and care settings.

Students who successfully complete this course will be equipped with the information and abilities needed to co-create learning experiences with young children in various early childhood education and care settings. They should also be capable of taking initiative, making decisions on their own, and conducting primary and secondary research on their own.
